OAS and GIS are paid monthly, on the last business day of each month. In 2026, three adjustment months (January, April, July, October) update the amount to reflect the Consumer Price Index.
The dates below are based on the official Canada.ca benefits calendar. Actual dates may shift by 1 to 2 business days if the last business day falls on a holiday or weekend.

The three adjustment months
OAS and GIS amounts are adjusted quarterly to reflect the Consumer Price Index. The January adjustment is the largest and reflects the full year-over-year change.
The adjustment is automatic: the new amount appears in your bank account on the scheduled date, without any action on your part. Confirm the current amounts on the Service Canada website each quarter.
What to do if a payment does not arrive
If the payment does not arrive on the scheduled date, the most common cause is a banking institution processing delay. The payment usually arrives 1 to 3 business days late, and no action is required.
If the payment does not arrive within 5 business days, the cause is usually a Service Canada suspension or a banking issue on the receiving end.
To diagnose: log into your My Service Canada Account, check the message center for any suspension notice, and confirm your direct deposit details. If the file shows no suspension, contact your bank to confirm whether the deposit was received and processed.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the last calendar day is the payment day. Payment is the last business day. A Saturday end-of-month means a Friday deposit.
- Planning expenses around the 30th or 31st. In months where those days fall on a weekend, the deposit arrives 1 to 3 days earlier than expected.
- Assuming a 1 to 3 day delay is a suspension. It is almost always a banking processing delay. Allow 5 business days before escalating.
